Uber Launches Unique Shikara Service in Dal Lake, Srinagar - Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir - In a move to promote tourism and provide a unique experience to visitors, Uber has launched its Shikara service in the iconic Dal Lake, Srinagar.

The service, which was launched recently, allows users to book a traditional Shikara ride on the picturesque Dal Lake. The Shikaras, which are intricately designed and decorated, will be equipped with all necessary safety features and will be operated by experienced and trained drivers.

This innovative move by Uber aims to provide a unique and authentic experience to tourists visiting Srinagar, while also promoting the local culture and tradition. The service is expected to be a major draw for tourists and will help to boost the local economy.

With this launch, Uber has once again demonstrated its commitment to innovation and customer experience. The Shikara service is now available for booking through the Uber app.

Shikaras, the traditional wooden boats of Kashmir, are synonymous with the beauty and cultural heritage of the region. Found mostly on Dal Lake and other waterways in Srinagar, these boats offer a unique experience for locals and tourists alike. While shikaras were once primarily used for fishing and transportation, today they are popular among tourists seeking scenic rides around the stunning Dal Lake, often referred to as 'Srinagar's Jewel.'

Dal Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in Jammu and Kashmir, remains a major tourist attraction, renowned for its natural beauty and cultural significance. Visitors from around the world flock to the lake to enjoy its serene views and partake in various recreational activities, making it an essential part of Kashmir’s tourism scene.

Uber Shikara Service: A Boost for Local Tourism

Shikara service is designed to benefit local shikara owners, as Uber will not charge any service fees, ensuring the full fare goes directly to the boatmen. Rides are available in one-hour slots from 10 am to 5 pm, with each shikara accommodating up to four passengers.

Tourists can book the Uber Shikara service up to 15 days in advance, with a minimum notice of 12 hours. Bookings can be made from Shikara Ghat No. 16, offering visitors easy access to the rides.

Support from Local Shikara Owners

Wali Mohammad Bhatt, president of the Shikara Owners Association, highlighted that there are approximately 4,000 shikaras operating on Dal Lake. Bhatt expressed optimism about the future of the Uber Shikara service, hoping that more local boatmen would join the platform to enhance the overall experience and provide a significant boost to the tourism industry in the region.
